Female flamenco dancer |
| Name:María del Mar Moreno Benítez |
| Birth: 1973 Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz |
María del Mar Moreno is a young bailaora (female flamenco dancer) who learned flamenco dancing with Angelita Gómez, Teresa Martínez de la Peña, Matilde Coral, Rafael el Negro and Mario Maya as teachers; her training was completed by classical ballet, drama and piano studies.
She danced as a professional since she was very young, in several companies, like "Rincón Andaluz" - the flamenco ensemble of the Angelita Gómez School - and in Manuel Morao's "Gitanos de Jerez" (Jerez Gypsies) company, in a number of whose shows she came to be the first bailaora. She has also formed artistic partnerships with the bailaor Antonio el Pipa and the guitarist Paco Cepero.
Moreover, María del Mar Moreno also has her own dance company, with which she has performed in the world's leading peñas (enthusiasts' clubs), festivals and theatres with her shows "Momentitos de Locura" (2001), "Septiembre" and "Dime que me quieres" (2003), or "Jerez Puro, Esencia" (2005). With this last show she received the "Audience's Award for the Best Show in the Jerez Festival".
Since late in 2004, she runs her own business alongside the cantaor (flamenco singer) Antonio Malena, and her professional activity is completed by talks that she gives in conferences at universities, foundations and on television, and her work as a teacher in international flamenco dance courses in the Centro Andaluz de Flamenco (Andalusian Flamenco Centre). She is currently researching the photographic archives of the Faculty of Flamencology in Jerez de la Frontera. |
