| Name:Dolores Montoya Rodríguez y Manuel Molina Jiménez |
| Birth: 1954 Sevilla y Ceuta |
"It is obvious that I don't play the guitar like my father, and nor does Lole sing like her mother does. Our parents never heard Janis Joplin or Jimi Hendrix, nor did they listen to the Beatles' music. The difference with us is mainly in the rhythm". Manuel

Lole y Manuel proceed from families which have important artistic predecessors. They had already begun their professional careers before they met, Lole as a bailaora and Manuel as a guitarist. However, it was when they formed an artistic partnership (1975) that they achieved their greatest successes, as a result of the quality of their art and the originality of what they were offering: the hippy culture of that period had reached flamenco. Their lyrics, which were initially written by the poet Juan Manuel Flores, replaced suffering and bitterness with peace, flowers and love. The music, which was composed and played by Manuel on guitar, strayed away from traditional flamenco, so that this duet could be placed within the group of artists responsible for the birth of new flamenco, or flamenco fusion in the seventies, alongside bands like Triana.
In 1993 Lole y Manuel went their separate ways, artistically speaking, after making five records together. At times, they recorded together again, but it was only occasionally, as from that moment onwards their careers developed independently. |
