La Macanita
Female flamenco singer
Name:Tomasa Guerrero Carrasco
Birth: 1968 Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz

"A good-looking gypsy, quite reminiscent of the old style strong flamenco women, she has a voice that is somewhat muffled and dark, with strong flamenco traits". Ángel Álvarez Caballero, flamencologist and journalist.
La Macanita's singing (she is named after her father El Macano) comes from the Jerez tradition of pure singing that is flamenco, gypsy, traditional, and doesn't make any concessions to external influences. She can sing festive palos (forms) and solemn ones alike, but her talent is most outstanding when she sings soleás, seguiriyas and villancicos (Christmas carols), which La Macanita sang when she took part in Carlos Saura's film "Flamenco". She also has several records that are devoted to this genre, and she has taken part in Christmas shows.

Her hoarse voice with a strong flamenco character has been heard in some tablaos, including the Zambra in Madrid, has travelled around Spain achieving important successes, and has also been present at international festivals featuring the most important singers. The success and recognition that La Macanita enjoys, in spite of her youth, is not surprising if one takes into account her precocious beginnings: when she was only four years old she appeared, singing and dancing in a bulerías style, on the television series "Rito y geografía del cante". Then she was part of other companies, including Manuel Morao's one, and she performed in flamenco tablaos, until Manolo Sanlúcar chose her for his record "Tauromagia", and she turned into a young promise that was fulfilled in a short time.
