Aurora Vargas is currently one of the great "ambassadors of flamenco". She is well known in countries like France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, Hungary, Japan, the United States... and she is also one of the figures who most regularly attend flamenco festivals, regardless of whether she is there as a cantaora or bailaora, although she claims that she prefers singing.
Her recording activity is not very extensive, and she didn't release her first record until the year 1997. On the other hand, she has worked with or has been in the same line-ups as important figures like Bernarda de Utrera, José Mercé and Antonio Gades, for whom she sang in the performances of his opera, Carmen, in Paris. She has also had some contact with the big screen. She was one of the participants in the film Flamenco by Carlos Saura, and contributed to the performance of a couple of bulerías for the soundtrack of the Radio Televisión Española (RTVE, the Spanish public broadcasting company) series "El Ángel". |
