| Name:Arturo Pavón Sanchez |
| Birth: 1931 Sevilla |
| Death: 2005 |
Arturo Pavón is one of the main instigators of the introduction of the piano in flamenco, opening the way for other younger pianists, like David Peña Dorantes. Arturo Pavón's classical training -in the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Sevilla- and the important musical predecessors in his family -he was the nephew of Tomás Pavón and La Niña de Los Peines- are other key features in his art.
A great deal of his artistic career has developed in the accompaniment of singing and dancing, a role in which he had been to several festivals and tablaos, especially in Los Canasteros (Madrid). The best artistic partnership that he formed was with his wife, Luisa Ortega, in 1954, but he also played on countless occasions for Manolo Caracol, to whom he also has family links: he is his son-in-law. He has made records as a solo artist, as well as working on records by other flamenco artists, like Mi secreto pirata (1995) by Vicente Soto Sorderita, in which Arturo Pavón plays the song Caracoleando on the piano.
Arturo Pavón's flamenco lineage does not finish with him. He has played for his daughters, the bailaora Jordana and the cantaora Salomé Pavón, who have already shown that they belong to this legendary dynasty of artists. |
