Guitarist |
| Name:Agustín Carbonell Serrano |
| Birth: 1967 Madrid |
El Bola has been based in Brazil for a long time, and he uses all the colours and sounds in Brazilian music, integrating them into flamenco rhythms. Before coming to this fusion, he followed a clear progression: from orthodox flamenco to working with musicians from very different styles and finally, towards Brazilian sounds.
He started by playing the guitar for El Güito, one of the representatives of the deepest dancing tradition. He has also accompanied others like Enrique Morente, El Portugués and Jorge Pardo, and he was one of the participants of the touring show Flamenco Puro, which experienced a great international success. He has also become involved in other musical projects like the one of Juan Perro, Santiago Auserón's alter ego, and he has had his own band, in which his guitar was accompanied by a piano, a violin, a bass guitar and percussion, with which he has performed on several stages like the ones of the Biennial festival in Seville and the Veranos de la Villa (in Madrid). He used this band to successfully introduce some jazz musicians into flamenco. Two of them were the double bass and accordion player Javier Colina, and the pianist Pedro Ojesto.
El Bola has also received good reviews in his facet as a cantaor-singer, always holding on to his guitar, and supported by musicians like Pancho Amat and Santiago Auserón in his record Vuelo Flamenco (1999). |
