El Capullo de Jerez followed El Sordera's maxim, according to which “to know anything about this, you have to stay up all night”, to the letter. For El Capullo, the gypsy music and lyrics arise from life, from the street, from where his earliest musical memories come: the neighbourhood patios in his neighbourhood. The effect that this training had on him can be seen in his exceptional renditions of the festive styles, and especially of bulerías, that are impregnated with the flavour of Jerez (the town as well as the local sherry), to which he has managed to give a personal touch.
His worth as a solo artist has been widely recognised by his professional colleagues. He has also been very much in demand as a backing singer, to accompany dancing, a role in which he has sung for dancers like La Tati. He often attends flamenco gatherings and meetings. |
