Dorantes
Piano player
Guitarist
Name:David Peña Dorantes
Birth: 1969 Lebrija, Sevilla

"When I listen to flamenco I don't just perceive music, I remember events and emotions. It is from these foundations that I start when I build my music".
Dorante had the (flamenco) art passed on to him from his four flanks: he is the grandson of La Perrata (sister of the great cantaor Perrate de Utrera), son of the tocaor (flamenco guitarist) Pedro Peña and nephew of El Lebrijano and Inés Bacán. And, although this is further removed, he is also related to Fernanda and Bernarda de Utrera, Pedro Bacán, Diego Gastor and Melchor de Marchena. Apart from belonging to this flamenco caste, he completed his musical education in the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música in Seville, and has shown interest in other types of music, as well as working with foreign artists.

It cannot be said that the music composed by Dorantes is exclusively flamenco. Flamenco is always the foundation for his creations, but at the same time he offers an interesting range of sounds and melodies in which it is possible to perceive the cadences drawn from musical genres including classical, Celtic, Brazilian, Galician, Asturian, Bulgarian, and jazz music... and in which he brings in other instruments that are not typically related to flamenco, such as the viola, violin or the violoncello (cello).

Dorantes took part in the Festival of Mont de Marsan (France), thanks to a recommendation from Yehudi Menuhim, and his impressionist and unprecedented way of composing and perfoming drew the attention of internationally-known musicians like Litto Vitale, Chick Corea, Wim Mertenson and Pedro Aures Magalhaes.
