Male flamenco singer |
| Name:Enrique Soto Barea |
| Birth: 1952 Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz |
Enrique Soto belongs to a Cádiz family of artists that has been in ferment. He is the son of Sordera de Jerez (Manuel Soto Monje) and the brother of Vicente Soto and Sorderita (José Soto Barea). He has continued along his father's tradition of harsh, Jerezan singing. Out of the three brothers, he is possibly the one who has moved away from orthodox flamenco the least.
The majority of his artistic career has been spent accompanying dancing. His ability at keeping the meter turned him into one one of the cantaores who was most in demand to accompany the great bailaores. He has sung for a great number of bailaores: Merche Esmeralda, Manuela Vargas, Antonio Ruiz, Mario Maya, El Güito, José Greco and many others. His career as a solo artist did not start until he was in his forties and after he had already cut his teeth in festivals, tablaos and concert, singing to accompany dancing. |
