Before the huge success of his first record (Las calles de San Blas. 1993), in terms of both sales and the public´s response, José el Francés had already composed songs for artists like El Potito, Pepe de Lucía, and even for Camarón (Una rosa pa´ tu pelo).
He has continued to sing his own songs, which merge flamenco, pop and ballads, French and Italian melodies, and even reggae, in his own records (four, between 1993 and 2002). He is considered one of the most firmly established representatives of "new flamenco"”, also known as "flamenco-fusion". He has worked with other artists who are part of the same category, like Ketama, Niña Pastori, and even with other musicians who are completely alien to flamenco, like Laura Pausini. He has also taken part in a tribute album for Camarón, one of his childhood heroes. |
