Female flamenco dancer |
Choreographer |
| Name:Sara Erde |
Sara Erde, a dancer, bailaora (female flamenco dancer) and choreographer, has performed her art in prestigious venues and festivals. Having undergone a thorough training, Sara Erde was already working in the theatre, cinema and television when she decided to get closer to flamenco and to learn this form of dancing.
She moved to Spain, where she met the bailaor El Torombo, who lived in the working class area of the Polígono Sur (Southern Estate) in Seville, better known as Las 3,000 Viviendas, and as famous for its high levels of social conflict as it is for its productive flamenco culture. Together, they staged a flamenco show in New York, "Las 3,000 en Broadway. Year 2000!", in which gypsy artists from the Polígono Sur took part.
Sara Erde is also important for her teaching work, as part of which she gives lessons in the Ballet Hispánico (Hispanic Ballet), one of the institutions for divulging Spanish culture that has earned the most recognition in the United States. Another project in which she has taken part is the documentary "Around Flamenco" (Paco Millán. 2000), which shows how flamenco is lived outside of Spain, particularly in New York and Tokyo. |
