Female flamenco dancer |
Choreographer |
| Name:Omayra Amaya |
Omayra Amaya is possibly the best bailaora (flamenco dancer) in the United States. It is not in vain that the blood of the Amayas flows in her veins: she is the grand-daughter of the great Carmen Amaya, who is acknowledged worldwide as the greatest bailaora ever.
Omayra Amaya grew up in a very flamenco environment. She started to dance professionally in her parents' company in the United States, where she also had the opportunity to meet great artists like Rosario Galán and Antonio Santaella, and to learn from them. She has also danced with non-flamenco dancers of the calibre of Ana Sokolow, Ann Marie Forsyth and Jennifer Scanlon.
In spite of her youth, Omayra has her own dance company, "Amaya, Flamenco sin Límites", which is also a school of flamenco in which young, talented artists learn about flamenco tradition, of which Omayra Amaya is one of the safe-keepers. |
