Both as a bailaora and as a teacher, Carlota Santana is one of the bailaoras (female flamenco dancers) who is most widely recognised on the flamenco scene in the United States. The esteem in which she is held is such that the dance magazine "Dance Magazine" has referred to this bailaora as "the keeper of flamenco".
Since 1983, Carlota Santana has been divulging flamenco through Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, a school and flamenco company that she founded herself, alongside Roberto Lorca. Flamenco Vivo is not only devoted to flamenco, but also to several other disciplines in dance, music and the dramatic arts. She has also been a teacher in other institutions such as the University of New York and the University of Long Island.
Carlota Santana has performed on great stages like the Carnegie Music Hall (Pittsburgh) and the Palacio de Congresos in Granada (Spain). She has also starred in famous tablaos, like the well known Arco de Cuchilleros in Madrid. She has shared the stage with the likes of Rosario Galán and José Molina in the United States, and with other greats like La Tati, Carmen Mora, Ciro and Manuela Carrasco in Spain. |
