This sixth volume of the legendary series "The Rituals and Geography of Flamenco Singing" contains the following four chapters:
FERNANDA DE UTRERA
Fernanda de Utrera, surrounded by close relatives including her sister Bernarda, treats us to a repertoire in which the homely, intimate and familiar air that is so typical of the descendants of Pinini can be clearly appreciated. Fernanda, accompanied on guitar by Diego de El Gastor, performs her quintessential and personal soleá, as well as bulerías, fandangos por soleá and the so-called cantiñas de Pinini.
WINE AND FLAMENCO
Pansequito, Miguel Vargas, Carmen Linares, Manuel Morao, Antonio Mairena… A well-assorted group of artists and a series of magnificent performances, in a programme which tackles the controversial issue of the relationship between alcoholic beverages and flamenco art.
EXTREMADURA AND PORTUGAL
A close-up to a number of flamenco artists and styles from Extremaduran and Portuguese lands that reveals some innovative expressive forms, largely unheard of by the public at large. In Badajoz, we will enjoy some unique tangos, alboreás and jaleos de Flora Saavedra and, after crossing the border, we will witness the flamenco singing and dancing of a group of wandering gypsies in Portugal.
MELCHOR DE MARCHENA
Melchor de Marchena, who is undoubtedly one of the best guitarists ever and a veritable master in the art of accompaniment, performs various pieces, displaying his unmistakeable style. We will also see a performance by Melchor alongside his son, Enrique de Melchor, who is one of the great guitarists of our times.
Specialists in the field consider the series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" the best series about flamenco ever, and it constitutes an audio-visual document of invaluable worth and significance. It is an exhaustive study concerning artists, styles, geographical and historical contexts that enjoyed the assistance and advisory work of the most prestigious flamencologists of the time.
The series has been re-released, with a careful restoration and re-mastering work, involving both the sound and images. This new edition is published in the format of a DVD-book: the DVD features over two hours of performances, interviews and reports; the book contains in-depth information about artists and flamenco styles.
The complete series is made up of twenty-four volumes, which can be purchased individually or in packs, each of which contains four volumes. Each volume contains four chapters of the original series and, thus, each case or pack contains 16 chapters of the original series.
