In 1931, García Lorca recorded five gramophone records with ten themes from his Colección de Canciones Populares Antiguas (Collection of Ancient Popular Songs). Lorca himself played the piano to accompany La Argentinita. This recording is the most personal audio document of the poet from Granada.
This edition, which has been re-mastered, includes a booklet with an autographed letter and with a drawing from Lorca to La Argentinita.
All of the themes are traditional, and were collected and harmonised by Federico García Lorca, except for Sones de Asturias.

El gusto de escucharlo hoy es un inmenso privilegio .
Es un documento muy valioso , por el tipo de mùsica tradicional y su preservaciòn, Garcìa Lorca al piano y poder escucharlo hoy dìa es una maravilla, agregando la voz de la Argentinita producen un viaje en el tiempo y una època entrañable para quienes gustamos de Lorca y su entorno.

Bodas de Sangre
I chose the title of this review not because "Canciones populares españolas" is in any way tragic, but rather because the wedding of Lorca's passionate piano playing to singer La Argentinita's rapt vocalization is a blood bond. Never mind the 1920's era sound, which is actually much better than it has any right to be! This album is astounding -- fresh, folksy, spirited, the very essence of Spanish flamenco. But it is for those of us in absolute awe of Federico Garcia Lorca the artist that this disc remains essential -- a means of communing with a beloved genius. This is the closest thing to having the master live and performing in your home.
Five hearts from me! I would have given it ten!

ME PERMITO OPINAR SOBRE ESTE GRAN VATE,YA QUE HE DECLAMADO SUS POESÌAS.TENÌA UN ESTILO INIGUALABLE,LO MISMO PARA SUS DRAMAS.ES DIFÌCIL DE ENTENDER PARA OIDOS POCO CULTOS.
PERO COMO PIANISTA DEJA MUCHO QUE DESEAR.NI HABLAR QUE LA ARGENTINITA CON ESA VOZ CHILLONA PARECE UNA CHICHARRA EN LA OREJA.LOS ARREGLOS SON EXCELENTES PERO PARA UNA VOZ MÀS CÀLIDA.BUENO ESPERO QUE NO SE SIENTAN PERO MI CRÌTICA EN MI OPINIÒN ES A VECES MUY DURA.PERDÒN POR SER TAN FRANCA.

un muy buen libro
me emociné leyéndolo, pude recordar viejos tiempos y eso me encantó. Me sabía unas cuantas y mientras leía se me llenaba el cuerpo de alegrías.Un libro estupendo!!de todo corazón!!
