Multi-zone DVD compatible with all countries (NTSC and PAL)
The two first programmes focus on Antonio Fernández 'Fosforito'. The first, in black and white, is from the first stage of the series Flamenco (1974-78) whereas the second, this time in colour and produced in 1980, is part of the second series of the same programme. In both of them we see a cantaor who is at his best, when all of his qualities are still practically intact. In the first part, he is accompanied by Juan Habichuela and sings petenera and soleá. He also reminds viewers that he was first known as 'Niño del Genil'.
In the following programme, Cantes Gaditanos Añejos (Early Cádiz Singing) from 1980, he is accompanied by Enrique de Melchor, and as specified in the title he sings typical cantes (styles, or forms) from Cádiz: cantiñas, soleá, tangos, siguiriya, malagueña del Mellizo and petenera.
The DVD is completed by Los Tronos del Cante (The Thrones of Singing) from the series 'Flamenco, Antología del Cante y Baile Andaluces' (Flamenco, an Anthology of Andalusian Singing and Dancing) from 1964. It is devoted to the period when flamenco turned professional, through the cafés cantantes (establishments serving drinks that staged performances of singing, playing and dancing, instrumental in spreading flamenco during their golden age in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century), inns and tablaos (establishments with a stage used for flamenco performances). 'La Cuatro' dances a mirabrás. A series of artists appear in the Alameda de Hércules in Seville, and in other places. The voice of Chacón can be heard while there are people selling photographs of the legend from Jerez. The cafés where flamenco singing was staged are discussed, and the recording finishes off in an inn, with Paco de Lucía accompanying Jarrito, who sings tientos.
