The first verses of a romance by Lope de Vega, “De mis soledades voy, de mis soledades vengo” are the title of the latest record by José Menese, one of the leading flamenco cantaores (singers).
The title provides a clue as to the content of the record: it is a tribute to the great poets of the Siglo de Oro (Golden Century) of Spanish literature, the seventeenth century. Lyrics, verses, romances and sonnets by Góngora, Quevedo, Cervantes, San Juan de la Cruz, Calderón de la Barca, Tirso de Molina and others, appear in this record, sung in styles including bulerías, guajiras, tangos and alegrías.
The contents are recorded live in the Maestranza in Seville (the city’s bull-ring), one of the stages where José Menese has performed this show very successfully. He is accompanied by the singing of Laura Vita and the guitars of Enrique de Melchor and Eduardo Rebollar. The DVD features the entire show, an interview with the cantaor with subtitles in English, photographs and the “making of” the show and the recording. Furthermore, the recording was made using the DOLBY SURROUND 5.1 system, which means that the sound quality is excellent.

Que bonito espectáculo, me he quedado maravillada de cuanta grandeza, aunque en la portada aparezca solo el artista principal, es un espectáculo donde participan los mejores artistas del panorama musical flamenco,Laura Vital, Joan Albert Amargó, Enrique de Melchor, Carmen Ledesma y una orquesta maravillosa, os lo recomiendo.

Que regalo, que dvd, a todos los amigos del flamenco, os lo recomiendo porque nunca he visto y oido nada igual, es que se une buen cante, buen acompañamiento, buenas letras y una plasticidad fuera de lo normal. Aunque en la portada aparezca el nombre solo del maestro, hay un grupo de artistas impresionante: Laura Vital, Enrique de Melchor, Eduardo Rebollar, y Carmen Ledesma, así como una orquesta de cámara dirigida por Joan Albert Amargó, increible. Que voz tiene esa niña, que voz más personal y tan llena de matices, yo creo sinceramente que la nana que canta Laura Vital en ese dvd, es una joya para los anales de la historia del flamenco, porque eso ya no se puede superar, que cosa más bonita, el maestro Menese enorme, muchas gracias a todos por regalarnos tanto arte.
