This tenth volume of the legendary "Rito y Geografía del Cante" series contains the following four chapters:
ANTONIO MAIRENA
Surrounded by people who were very close to him, who he had invited himself to accompany him ─Manuel and Juan Morao, Curro Mairena, Juan Barcelona, El Poeta de Alcalá, Tía Juana la del Pipa, Tía Pepa la Chicharrona, Paco Lira, Cascabel de Mairena…─, Antonio Mairena displays himself in all his splendour as he interprets soleares, malagueñas, bulerías, seguiriyas and romances in a gathering that is unrepeatable.
LORCA AND FLAMENCO
A programme that tackles the significance that Federico García Lorca's work may have in reference to flamenco, and the repercussion of what was possibly misnamed as "lorquismo" on this musical genre, with the participation of the poet Luis Rosales and the painter José Caballero, personal friends of the universal poet from Granada.
THE FANDANGO
A journey that runs through the variety that exists within this flamenco form: the fandangos of Alosno, those of Macandé, sung by Ángel de Álora; the so-called natural fandangos or those created by individuals; those of the Jerezan El Gloria, sung by his fellow Jerezan Manuel Soto Sordera; some moving fandangos with the rhythmic structure of the soleá, sung by the non-professional cantaora (female flamenco singer) from Cádiz, María la Sabina, or those of Tío Bengala, which have some very personal features.
AMÓS RODRÍGUEZ REY
Amós Rodríguez Rey, a descendant of Niño de la Isla, the cantaor who was born in the 19th century, was first and foremost a consummate expert on the variety that exists in flamenco music, and a performer who gave it his all when it came to singing. His full and rounded voice, his passionate distress and his noble commitment, made Amós Rodríguez Rey a different and extremely original artist, even though, strictly speaking, he was not a professional.
Specialists in the field consider the series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" the best series about flamenco ever, and it constitutes an audio-visual document of invaluable worth and significance. It is an exhaustive study concerning artists, styles, geographical and historical contexts that enjoyed the assistance and advisory work of the most prestigious flamencologists of the time.
The series has been re-edited, with a careful restoration and re-mastering work, involving both the sound and images. This new edition is published in the format of a DVD-book: the DVD features over two hours' worth of performances, interviews and reports; the book contains in-depth information about artists and flamenco styles.
The complete series is made up of twenty-four volumes, which can be purchased individually or in packs, each of which contains four volumes. Each volume contains four chapters of the original series and, thus, each case or pack contains 16 chapters of the original series.
