An essential album for fans of this revolutionary vocalist from Granada and for flamenco lovers in general.
Enrique Morente was born in the Albaicín of Granada in 1942. He was a choral singer at the Cathedral in Granada and got interested in flamenco at neighbourhood and family gatherings. He learnt the basics of this art form from Aurelio Sellés (Aurelio de Cádiz).
His lust for learning and self confidence took him to Madrid at 14 or 15. There he sung with a group of amateurs from a university group and with them he went to bars and met and studied with the 80-year old vocalist Pepe de la Matrona who had sung with all the greats and had studied with Antonio Chacón himself.
After his classical beginnings, Enrique Morente career as vocalist and flamenco artist has been anything but traditional, he has been loved or criticised but has always held to his own avant gard vision of flamenco.
