This third volume of the legendary series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" contains the following four chapters:
EL LEBRIJANO
At the start of the 1970s, Juan Peña El Lebrijano, a member of one of the family with the longest roll of flamenco artists, carved out some space for himself in the Spanish capital, keeping up a constant activity and gambling on bold projects with the purpose of acquiring a personal language. In his flat in the Madrid neighbourhood of La Concepción, this splendid cantaor (flamenco singer) offers us a domestic concert that expresses his personal style and his contribution to flamenco.
CÁDIZ AND THE PORTS
Submerged in the landscape of the capital of the Cádiz province, with the sea as a timeless witness, we view a special journey across the most characteristic cantes (styles) of this region, such as bulerías, tangos, alegrías and mirabrás. It is a choral document in which a sizeable group of artists who made up the flamenco scene in Cádiz at the time, among whom was the fondly remembered Perla de Cádiz, takes part.
SEGUIRIYAS (I)
The diverse range of seguiriyas is displayed in this programme through the legendary voices of some great artists from Jerez, such as Tío Borrico, Tía Anica la Piriñaca, Fernando Terremoto and Agujeta, accompanied by two guitar masters: Manuel Morao and Parrilla de Jerez.
PEDRO LAVADO
For Pedro Lavado, flamenco is a shared experience and a life that is independent from merely professional aspects. Alongside the magnificent guitar playing by Merengue de Córdoba, in this programme he performs zánganos of Puente Genil and fandangos of Lucena; which are indigenous styles from his homeland, as well as country styles and different types of malagueñas.
Specialists in the field consider the series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" the best series about flamenco ever, and it constitutes an audio-visual document of invaluable worth and significance. It is an exhaustive study concerning artists, styles, geographical and historical contexts that enjoyed the assistance and advisory work of the most prestigious flamencologists of the time.
The series has been re-released, with a careful restoration and re-mastering work, involving both the sound and images. This new edition is published in the format of a DVD-book: the DVD features over two hours of performances, interviews and reports; the book contains in-depth information about artists and flamenco styles.
The complete series is made up of twenty-four volumes, which can be purchased individually or in packs, each of which contains four volumes. Each volume contains four chapters of the original series and, thus, each case or pack contains 16 chapters of the original series.
