This, the eighth volume of the legendary series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" contains the following four chapters:
PACO DE LUCÍA
The artistry of the maestro Paco de Lucía in an intimate and attentive environment, with the presence of relatives and friends, like Ramón de Algeciras, Félix Grande and Camarón. In the programme, as a world premiere, Paco de Lucía plays his piece Entre dos aguas, possibly the most famous rumba for guitar ever, which was released shortly afterwards in a record, with some slight changes.
SOLEARES II
Varied examples of soleares from the Cádiz province; María la Sabina and her son Santiago Donday in Cádiz, as well as Manuel Soto Sordera, Tío Borrico and the ineffable Chozas in Jerez, carry out a representative journey across the variations on this fundamental style of flamenco.
PRIMITIVE STYLES WITHOUT GUITAR PLAYING
Ancient romances that are narrated and sung in very few strongholds in the flamenco territory. They are styles that used to be heard in Triana, Seville, Sanlúcar de Barrameda and El Puerto de Santa María, which the descendants of Alonso el del Cepillo and of José de los Reyes, el Negro, are still playing.
THE SANTIAGO NEIGHBOURHOOD
A journey around the Santiago neighbourhood of Jerez, which has been the cradle for an immense roll of cantaores (flamenco singers), bailaores (flamenco dancers) and guitarists, indispensable figures whose artistic legacy can still be found in today's flamenco. An absolutely significant sample is offered, with the guidance of a group of its most illustrious performers, among whom we find Manuel Morao, Tío Borrico, Agujeta and Tía Anica la Piriñaca.
Specialists in the field consider the series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" the best series about flamenco ever, and it constitutes an audio-visual document of invaluable worth and significance. It is an exhaustive study concerning artists, styles, geographical and historical contexts that enjoyed the assistance and advisory work of the most prestigious flamencologists of the time.
The series has been re-edited, with a careful restoration and re-mastering work, involving both the sound and images. This new edition is published in the format of a DVD-book: the DVD features over two hours' worth of performances, interviews and reports; the book contains in-depth information about artists and flamenco styles.
The complete series is made up of twenty-four volumes, which can be purchased individually or in packs, each of which contains four volumes. Each volume contains four chapters of the original series and, thus, each case or pack contains 16 chapters of the original series.
