A re-release of one of Menese's first records. It was first released in 1967 and in it, the cantaor (flamenco singer) is featured with the accompaniment of Melchor de Marchena. The record sleeve and the lyrics of the songs in the album are by Francisco Moreno Galván. It also includes texts written by Fernando Quiñones and Rafael Alberti, and photographs by Pepe Lamarca.
Fernando Quiñones explains that in this record "basic flamenco cantes" refers to tonás, seguiriyas, soleares and tangos, because they are the ones that possess autonomous melodic lines and rhythms. Flamencologists believe that it was from these that all, or almost all, of the remaining palos (flamenco forms) arose. These basic palos are the ones that are featured in the record.
