The first part, 'Cultura y razas' (Culture and races) focuses on flamenco dancing and its history, and gathers different views on its origins: the Egyptian professor Hakal explains the relationship of Andalusian dancing with the Arab world; Arcadio Larrea talks about Hispanic-Arabic music, the relationship between flamenco and Mediterranean music, dances with Hispanic-American origins and the so-called bailes de ida y vuelta (styles that were created in Spain, travelled to the Americas with Spanish migrants, where they were influenced by Hispanic American folk music, before returning to Spain and being influenced, in turn, by flamenco music); Marienma's ballet dances El Canario, which is possibly an ancestor of the flamenco zapateado (a rhythmic combination of sounds made by stepping with the toe, sole and heel of the foot); Spanish gypsies; Ana Lázaro offers her interpretation of the origins of flamenco; a group of nomadic European gypsies in Arles (France) perform their dances; and Gloria Manderik explores, by including examples, the possible similarity between particular Indian dances and flamenco.
The protagonist of the second part is Antonio Montoya 'El Farruco' who, after he retired voluntarily from stage performances, returns for his first performance on television to perform soleá, seguiriyas and bulerías.
In 'Dinastías gitanas' (Gypsy dynasties), El Farruco, this time with his family, shows us that some authentic dynasties of artists exist in the world of flamenco. Alongside his daughters Farruquita and Pilar, he performs alegrías, soleares and bulerías.
