Much awaited sixth solo album by Vicente Amigo. The guitar player from Cordoba offers us an open, up-beat, high quality flamenco album with a carefully performed melody. Nine compositions that, according to Vicente; “I have developed differently, a challenge to sing with the guitar and with harmonies that I think are interesting”.
“It’s an album with lots of collaborations”, says Vicente Amigo. And the fact is that on "Paseo de Gracia" the guitar is accompanied by artists of the likes of Enrique and Estrella Morente, Niña Pastori, Alejandro Sanz, Rafael de Utrera, Pedro Heredia, Miguel Ortega, José Parra, Lin and Nani Cortés, who add the vocals, wisdom and flamenco. And lovingly enveloping Vicente Amigo’s music are a host of great musicians like Tino di Geraldo (drums and percussion), Antonio Ramos “Maca” (bass), Alexis Lefêvre (violin) and Paquito González (percussion) making up a truly great cast of musicians.

Disappointing
After the excellent "Un Momento En El Sonido", which was a brilliantly tasteful combination of tradition and innovation, "Paseo de Gracia" is not a worthy successor. After I listened to the album for the first time, I proclaimed that it was Vicente's best. Then, I realized that most of the tracks were cleverly disguised rumbas... there are some other palos, such as bulerias and tangos, but all the tracks come off as extremely derivative, especially the one with Estrella Morente.
Vicente is one of the best guitarists out there, period -- "Paseo de Gracia" is not one of his best efforts. I read in a couple of interviews that Vicente wasn't wild about recording a "pop flamenco" record, and I can tell... the tunes on this album are, for the most part, lifeless. I sincerely hope he will return to what made his music so great -- a mix of flamenco tradition and new melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic ideas from outside the flamenco realm.
