This, the eleventh volume of the legendary series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" contains the following four chapters:
CHOCOLATE
The beginnings of the professional career of Antonio Núñez Montoya, Chocolate, were marked by poverty and needs, a time of shades that left a deep mark on his way of singing. The three styles that we are shown, fandangos, soleares y seguiriyas, are performed alongside his brother-in-law Farruco and other close relatives, and they bear witness to the exceptional artistic worth of this cantaor from Jerez.
ROMANCES, TIENTOS AND TANGOS
This programme looks at three significant cantes (styles) in the flamenco repertoire: romances, tientos and tangos, featuring the performances and views of various cantaores, specialists and enthusiasts: Antonio Mairena, Miguel Bengala, Francisco Moreno Galván, the Perrate family, Terremoto de Jerez, José Menese and Manolillo el Herraor, among others.
FLAMENCO CHRISTMAS
A close-up view of the Christmas festivities in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), with the guidance of the cantaor Manuel Soto Sordera and his family, who present us with a series of cantes (styles) and dances that are typical of this period, as well as the gastronomy and other aspects that are related to this feast.
FROM GRANADA TO LA UNIÓN
A journey around the provinces of Granada and Murcia, looking for the so-called Levant cantes: the granaína and media granaína, the minera, cartagenera, taranto and taranta…, featuring magnificent performances by artists like Juan Hierro, Fosforito, Juan Habichuela, Camarón and Paco Cepero.
Specialists in the field consider the series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" the best series about flamenco ever, and it constitutes an audio-visual document of invaluable worth and significance. It is an exhaustive study concerning artists, styles, geographical and historical contexts that enjoyed the assistance and advisory work of the most prestigious flamencologists of the time.
The series has been re-edited, with a careful restoration and re-mastering work, involving both the sound and images. This new edition is published in the format of a DVD-book: the DVD features over two hours' worth of performances, interviews and reports; the book contains in-depth information about artists and flamenco styles.
The complete series is made up of twenty-four volumes, which can be purchased individually or in packs, each of which contains four volumes. Each volume contains four chapters of the original series and, thus, each case or pack contains 16 chapters of the original series.
