Length: 120 minutes
The brother of Manuel Moneo, Juan Moneo Lara “El Torta” (Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz. 1952) sings in soleá, tientos, alegrías, seguiriya and bulería styles. Almost all of his songs have lyrics that he has written himself and he talks about this in the discussion group. He also points to the danger that pop represents for the purity of singing, and talks of the relationship between singing and alcohol. Juan Villar talks of the cantes grandes (a subjective expression used to indicate the oldest and most solemn, authentic and primitive styles) and the cantes chicos (subjective expression used to describe styles that are not particularly solemn, or deep, suited for dancing and merriment), about the cantes de Cádiz, the saeta, the bulerías and the crisis of flamenco singing. He performs the soleá, seguiriya, alegrías, tientos, fandangos, bulerías and bulerías de la Perla. Extras: Information about palos (forms) and biographical information on the artists.
