This fourth volume of the legendary series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" contains the following four chapters:
PEPE DE LA MATRONA
This is a programme to enjoy the artistry and wisdom of the great Pepe de la Matrona, who, at 86 years of age, and boasting an enviable vitality, gallantly performs a rich repertoire of vintage styles. With the most characteristic corners of Seville and Madrid’s Casa Gayango as his stages, the old cantaor (flamenco singer) from Triana is featured with accompaniment provided by Manolo el Sevillano’s guitar, surrounded by friends, enthusiasts and professional colleagues, including Pericón de Cádiz.
SEGUIRIYAS (II)
The variations of the seguiriya in the geographical context of Seville and its province, with the heavy influence of the Triana neighbourhood. It is a journey across the diverse expressions of this unique style, through the performances by historic masters of flamenco singing and guitar playing: Juan Talega, Antonio Mairena, Luis Caballero, Chocolate, Melchor de Marchena and Eduardo el de la Malena.
GYPSY PARTY
Three party that are laden with moments of great beauty, both in terms of the aesthetics of the dance and in terms of the music, which leans on the meter of the bulería. The descendants of the cantaor Pinini, the Perrate family and a group of artists from Jerez, among whom Tío Borrico, El Chozas, Tía Juana la del Pipa and Manuel Morao are featured, perform the most genuine flamenco singing and dancing in a very natural manner.
CRISTOBALINA SUÁREZ
Cristobalina Suárez, the wife of the cantaor and bailaor (flamenco dancer) Miguel Funi, displays his resolute artistic determination by offering the best possible repertoire in a private gathering that took place in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz). Accompanied by the guitar of Pedro Bacán, she expresses her quality as a cantaora (female flamenco singer) with some splendid images of music and dancing in which improvisation plays an important role.
Specialists in the field consider the series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" the best series about flamenco ever, and it constitutes an audio-visual document of invaluable worth and significance. It is an exhaustive study concerning artists, styles, geographical and historical contexts that enjoyed the assistance and advisory work of the most prestigious flamencologists of the time.
The series has been re-released, with a careful restoration and re-mastering work, involving both the sound and images. This new edition is published in the format of a DVD-book: the DVD features over two hours of performances, interviews and reports; the book contains in-depth information about artists and flamenco styles.
The complete series is made up of twenty-four volumes, which can be purchased individually or in packs, each of which contains four volumes. Each volume contains four chapters of the original series and, thus, each case or pack contains 16 chapters of the original series.
