This, the twelfth volume of the legendary series "Rito y Geografía del Cante", contains the following four chapters:
FOSFORITO
Antonio Fernández Díaz, Fosforito, an artist who enjoyed one of the most successful professional careers in the entire history of flamenco, receives us in his house in Alhaurín de la Torre (Málaga) and, with the accompaniment of the guitarist Juan Carmona Habichuela, he interprets songs that have a very varied musical and stylistic nature: tarantos, alegrías, the polo, peteneras and seguiriyas.
CANTES (STYLES) PROCEEDING FROM FOLKLORE
A programme that runs through the styles, belonging to different musical traditions, that have been incorporated into the general flamenco repertoire, which are illustrated through magnificent examples, like the canciones de columpio (lit. swing songs) of Arcos de la Frontera (Cádiz), sung by La Remedios, the tasty rumbas by Pepe de la Matrona, Juan Barcelona and Merced la de la Paula, and the classical version of the garrotín by Rafael Romero.
TRIANA
Examples that are representative of the styles and dances that are distinctive of the historic Triana neighbourhood: the seguiriyas that are sung by Niño Bronce, the wonderful soleares, by both Rosalía and Oliver de Triana, the tientos of another distinguished man from Triana, Pepe de la Matrona, and the brazen and irreverent tangos interpreted by a group of professionals and amateurs, almost all of whom were born in Triana.
THE HOUSE OF THE MAIRENAS
Four songs that have a great worth, performed from the musical perspective that is the Mairenas' own, with all the ingredients and qualities that define this exclusive manner of expressing music. The martinete by Antonio, the excellent tientos and soleares by Manuel and the awesome seguiriyas by Curro, who sings to his brother Manuel until he manages to move him, are admirable examples of the best flamenco in its highest artistic expression.
Specialists in the field consider the series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" the best series about flamenco ever, and it constitutes an audio-visual document of invaluable worth and significance. It is an exhaustive study concerning artists, styles, geographical and historical contexts that enjoyed the assistance and advisory work of the most prestigious flamencologists of the time.
The series has been re-edited, with a careful restoration and re-mastering work, involving both the sound and images. This new edition is published in the format of a DVD-book: the DVD features over two hours' worth of performances, interviews and reports; the book contains in-depth information about artists and flamenco styles.
The complete series is made up of twenty-four volumes, which can be purchased individually or in packs, each of which contains four volumes. Each volume contains four chapters of the original series and, thus, each case or pack contains 16 chapters of the original series.
