La más temperamental, trágica y apasionada figura del baile flamenco también supo expresar como cantaora la cautivadora emoción de la raza gitana. Sus grabaciones recogidas en este doble CD han quedado como muestra de su cante. El primer CD recoge grabaciones realizadas en Nueva York en el año 1941, mientras que el segundo incluye grabaciones de los años 1955 y 56, también realizadas en Nueva York
La pureza y la perfección de su baile están recogidas en el DVD que recorre su trayectoria a través de fotos y escenas de las películas María de la O y La hija de Juan Simón, rodadas ambas en los años 30. Contiene también imágenes de dos cortometrajes protagonizados por Carmen Amaya en los años 40. (DVD multisistema compatible en todos los países. Compatible PAL y NTSC).
Toda esta información se completa con el libro "El mar me enseñó a bailar", biografía de Carmen Amaya escrita por Jordi Pujol y Carlos García de Olalla Maristany. Incluye además gran número de ilustraciones. El libro está escrito en español, con traducción en inglés y francés.

SHE WAS A GREAT ARTIST BUT ALSO MODEST AND BIG HEARTED
Carmen Amaya was kind enough to audition me when I was no more than 12 years old. She sat in the stalls eating a big sausage sandwich in her white towelling robe with her famous impresario next to her. A tiny little nut brown person full of crackle and personality.
I nervbously performed my soleares. In her amercan/spanish accent she told me I was a 'great baby' and I should give up school (what use is school to a dancer she said?!) and train with her to join her company when she returned to Spain. My mother wasn't too keen. She signed the above cover photograph for me. What a treasure! My mother lost it on moving house and I was heartbroken. To be able to see her again in Los Tarantos was a wonderful and moving experience for me.

Discovering Carmen
I just "discovered" Carmen Amaya, in a couple of breathtaking old film clips, and I am still entranced and astounded by her perfection. I am trying to get hold of everything of hers that I can. I am buying La reina del embrujo gitano and am wondering what else is available. Are the old films she played in available on DVD, and does she have much of a role in them? I also bought Los Tarantos (before I knew who Carmen Amaya was) but am wondering if there is a version with English subtitles.

DVDの映像も音声もかなり古いものなので、当然ながらヒドイです。
でも、パンツスタイルで踊るマニッシュなカルメンやマーメイドラインの衣装で踊るセクシーなカルメンなど、色んな姿が見ることが出来ます。
CDは２枚あり、充分満喫することが出来ます！それぞれのカンテも、イマジネーションをかき立てられるようなカンテで、すばらしいです。
充分に買う価値があるものと思います。
