 Antonio Fernández Díaz "Fosforito"
|
The recordings of some of the great performances by the cantaor Antonio Fernández Díaz, "Fosforito", have been retrieved from the audio archives of Radio Nacional de España (RNE, the Spanish public radio broadcasting company) and brought together in a double CD. This work, which has been released by the RTVE-Música record label, contains songs that belong to the period that runs from 1970 to 1981, which is considered the time of his greatest brilliance.
Born in Puente Genil (Córdoba) 74 years ago, Fosforito is experiencing a period of great acknowledgement and tributes. In October 2005, he was awarded the 5th Llave de Oro del Cante (Golden Key of Flamenco Singing). Moreover, this year will be the fiftieth anniversary of the year when this veteran cantaor (flamenco singer) won all the prizes that were available in the 1st Concurso Nacional de Arte Flamenco (National Flamenco Art Contest) of Córdoba in 1956, a unique case, to date.
To celebrate this and to pay tribute to the man who is one of the most complete cantaores ever, RTVE-Música has collected 24 of his best live performances in a double CD. There is no lack of martinetes, seguiriyas, soleares, peteneras, fandangos de Lucena, or tarantos, a palo (flamenco form) that was crucial in this artist's career.
As if this wasn't enough, alongside Fosforito's singing, there is the guitar playing of the most important guitarists. Among them, those that stand out are Paco de Lucía, Juan Carmona Habichuela, Enrique de Melchor, Melchor de Marchena and Paco Cepero.
They are audio documents of great historical value that are dedicated to one of the greats of the 'arte jondo' (lit. 'deep art', an expression commonly used to refer to flamenco), for whom "you learn the technique, but the soul cannot be transferred, it stays with the person who has travelled down the route, and without the soul, there is no flamenco".
