On the 28th of February the dancer Eva Yerbabuena will receive the Medal of Andalusia for her contribution to the Arts in the Maestranza theatre in Seville. An honorary distinction, with more than 20 years of history that has previously been given to artists such as Paco de Lucía (1988), the author Juan Eslava Galán (1999), José Monje Cruz “Camarón de la Isla” (1993), Vicente Amigo (2000), the flamenco dancer Matilde Coral (2001) and the flamenco singer Enrique Morente (2005).
Eva Yerbabuena said as soon as she heard the news that she felt “specially honoured by this distinction, which has been a total surprise". "This award honours me because it comes from Andalusia, my homeland. Without a doubt the medal will motivate me further to be a representative of Andalusia around the world”, she added.
The award comes in a specially important year for Eva Yerbabuena, who has just finished an successful tour of Asía y Oceania, which has taken her to the most important theatres of Japan and Australia, and where she had the honour of taking flamenco to the Sydney Opera House for the first time in history.
Amongst her immediate projects is the opening of the London Flamenco Festival, the 23 February at Sadler´s Wells. The dancer is also on the bill of the main festivals such as the Festival de Jerez, on the 8 of March, with her production “El Huso de la Memoria”.
At the same time, Eva Yerbabuena is finishing of the preparations for her next hit “Santo y Seña”, which will premiere on the 17 and 18 of March at the Maestranza theatre in Seville. A show that will once again take her around the world.
